Have you recently lost your health insurance coverage or experienced a major household change? You may qualify for a health insurance Special Enrollment Period, or SEP, that allows you to join or change your coverage.

Typically, the ACA Marketplace Open Enrollment Period (OEP) runs from November 1st to January 15th. This is the normal time to sign up for a health insurance plan, however if you experience a qualifying life event, such as losing qualifying health coverage, you may be eligible to enroll throughout the year.

The Special Enrollment Period allows you to join, change, or drop health coverage outside of the Open Enrollment Period (OEP) in certain circumstances such as:

• Lost qualifying health coverage in the past 60 days
• Expect to lose health coverage in the next 60 days
• Major household change, such as getting married, having a baby, or adopting a child
• Moving to a new area, change in residence

It is important to know if you qualify for a SEP, you will need to enroll within 60 days of the start of your qualifying life event.
